Home is probably one of the biggest investment of any one of us and roofs are the most important aspect of our home. They act as a protective covering for us and our homes.

Roofing material is one of the biggest factor that determines the life of the roof. Other factors responsible are: the weather conditions, how carefully the roof is installed and what steps are followed for it maintenance.

The sun has a detrimental effect upon the roofing material, regardless of what type of roof it is. The rays cause the material to expand, contract, warp, curl, and lose strength and shape. Elements such as rain water, high winds, snow, hail, etc cause further damage to the already weakened roof resulting in leaks, damage, mildew and fungus growth. So make sure that you choose the appropriate roofing material for your home.

At the time of roof inspections, if you find many leakage points and many worn out or completely damaged shingles, then it is advisable to get your roof replaced rather than having g it repaired. A new roof will ensure to give better protection.

Professional roofers are usually not free all the time. So you might have to wait for a week or so to get your work started. Area of the roof, roofing material and weather conditions also determine the the installation time. Like, an asphalt roof can be finished in 2 – 3 days while a metal roofing can be completed in 2 – 4 days.

You can try out roofing installation with some types of roofing materials. But one should know that it is a very physical job that involves moving heavy materials, nailing etc. You should have proper skills for this purpose otherwise it can be dangerous.

You should take the help of someone who has some experience in this field for the first time so that you can get it right. Roof installation can be difficult to mange alone.

Another important consideration is the weather, if you get a spell of clear weather, try and finish the work, if the weather changes you must be equipped to protect the unfinished roof against the elements. Also, you need to be careful about your own safety while handling various tools, a slip from roof height is potentially fatal.
