Or, maybe you’re a student, or just someone’s who more laid back, and you just need work that’s flexible but pays well. Well, in both cases, valet parking attendant might be just what you’re looking for.

What’s so great about the job? Well, one of the best things about valet parking is the money. You won’t be able to retire in a few years from what you make, but the tips can be very, very good. Most people know that they should tip the person that parks their car. And most of them will. When it’s raining, your tips will be even bigger. And don’t forget you’ll also be getting a base wage.

Another nice thing about valet parking is that it’s a pretty pleasant job. You won’t be doing any heavy lifting, or getting dirty. You’ll be outside, meeting and talking to people who are glad to see you. And don’t forget, you’ll be putting cash in your pocket the same day you work.

Another big reason is flexibility. With a lot of valet services, you can choose what days you want to work. Got a date? Don’t work that night. Your son has a big Little League game coming up? Take the weekend off. This is one of the best parts of the job.

What makes a good employee? The main thing employers are looking for, besides dependability, is someone with a clean background. As in no criminal history, and a good driving record. They want drivers who they can trust not to have a collision while parking, and not to steal the car, or valuables from it. If you’ve kept your nose clean, you’ve got a head start against many other applicants.

You’ll need to look nice. I’m not talking about being really gorgeous or handsome, but a professional look. Sorry, but facts are facts, and if you’re really fat and out of shape, the valet company probably won’t want you representing them with the public. Also, if you walk in to apply for a job covered with tattoos, you’re probably wasting your time. Sorry, but that’s just how it is. But if you’re in pretty good shape, and don’t look like you just got fired from the circus, you’ll be fine.

You may have a hard time finding a valet parking job if you’re a tobacco user. Sure, you know better that to smoke while parking a car. Everyone does. But many people who smoke have a very hard time fighting off the urge to sneak off and have a quick one. And if you leave a tobacco odor in a non-smokin guest’s car, they’re going to be very upset. What about drug use? Uh…what do you think?

So, if you don’t smoke or get high, have a clean driving and legal background, and you look halfway decent, you should probably have no trouble landing a valet parking job. So forget the local burger or pizza joint. Become a valet parking attendant!
